Where Goes the Departed Soul?

When my parents passed away, I was left standing at the crossroads of where to turn.

Right or left.

Earlier, anytime I was confused, I could reach them easily through a phone call or even a Whatsapp message to solve my problem. Now, I keep pondering over the same questions to find the solution by myself.

I am curious about those souls who have departed. Where are they? Are they floating around us as angels or have they reincarnated into another body?

My curiosity led me to find answers in different religions:

Hinduism // The Bhagavad Gita:

"Just as a man discards worn out clothes and puts on new clothes, the soul discards worn out bodies and wears new ones." (2.22)

Christianity // The Bible:

“At death, while man’s body is mortal, decays and returns to dust, his soul and spirit continue either in a place of torments for those who reject Christ or in paradise (heaven) in God’s presence for those who have trusted in the Savior. Both categories of people will be resurrected, one to eternal judgment and the other to eternal life with a glorified body” (John 5:25-29).

I was looking for answers in religion. Hinduism and Christianity have different beliefs about souls and reincarnation, leaving me even more confused. But, then there is one thing in common that both account for: earthly actions – also known as karma.

I realized I need to row my boat of life by being mindful of my actions. By trying to be in the present. By being aware of the tick-tock of the clock to appreciate time that is passing me by.

Each year floats by with various obligations that bind us, but being able to make a difference within by developing awareness each day is the key. I shall continue to live the legacy of my parents by embracing their ideologies with the hope that my actions will help my soul shine.

Actions that are performed in this lifetime can take our soul miles in either direction: good or bad. The choice is now ours to make!
