Let's Talk About You

"How you doin' Thea?" Shasha questioned her BFF, whom she was meeting after ages at her home.

"Hey! What a surprise!" Thea acknowledged her with a hug.

"Hey, what are these different colored bottles?" Shasha inquired earnestly.

"Ummm... my meds. I'm sort of self-medicating with different supplements," said Thea. Her BFF responded with a forced smile as her wrinkles around the lips stretched while the dull eyes refused to blink.

"Since when?"

"Since a couple of months, dear," Thea admitted as she opened each of them to pull out a tablet and place them on a saucer next to her teacup.

"What's bothering you?"

"Dunno yet," Thea had a clueless expression, "body parts ache, don't have the energy to go to work and get grilled each day." Then after a pause, she popped a pill and declared, "but these pills help." she said earnestly.

"This is not okay!" Shasha stated as she kept both their drinks aside, and held her hands, "eventually this will eat you up."

Thea just shrugged her shoulders.

"You know most of the problems start with the mind. If you can train your mind to be active and stress-free; your body will take the message, and co-operate."

"Huh!" Thea gave another clueless expression, "but how can one control the mind from thoughts that flow in and out continuously?"

Shasha pulled her hair behind her ear and continued, "Just close your eyes each morning after waking and evening prior to sleeping, and learn to ponder over your thoughts. The thoughts that linger on, the thoughts that agonize you, the thoughts that give you sleepless nights." She observed her friend's puzzled expressions. She paused and then continued, "man is an intelligent being that if he ponders over his thoughts; solutions tend to come."

Nothing is impossible, the word itself says 'I'm possible'

That brought a sparkle to Thea's eyes. She exclaimed, "Seriously! Is that even possible?"

"Yes! Absolutely. But you have to give time to your problems rather than fussing over it. Every issue needs its own time." Shasha added.

The two most powerful warriors are patience and time.

~Leo Tolstoy

There was hope in Thea's eyes as she tapped her fingers on the table.

After exchanging a couple of pleasantries, the girls stood up to part their ways. Shasha was quick to interject in a jovial tone, "Hey, so next time when I ask you, ‘how’s it going?’ I would hope these bottles are gone, and a thumbs up expression from you as you would have managed to get a balance in your physical and mental being."

Those words encouraged Thea as she was quick to nod in approval, hoping to use her friend's advice for the future.

Food for thought: Like Shasha had said, I want to leave you with the message to really listen to your thoughts and write down whatever it is that is bothering you. If you can identify your problems you can come up with solutions and small steps to take to overcome them.

Women in particular need to keep an eye on their physical and mental health, because if we're scurrying to and from appointments and errands, we don't have a lot of time to take care of ourselves. We need to do a better job of putting ourselves higher on our own 'to do' list.
